Stromberg Carlson Candlestick

Updated May 2015

Note

Please be aware that the Stromberg Carlson Candlestick has a problem with sending DTMF tones. To date, Stromberg Carlson has not announced an intention of fixing this bug.

Prerequisites

Purchase Info:
Unfortunately, Stromberg Carlson no longer has its documentation and software available online, however parts and support can be found on Ebay and other suppliers' websites.

  • Phone network configuration completed.

The following instructions assume your phone has successfully booted and completed network configuration including obtaining valid IP addresses for itself, an IP gateway and DNS servers either via DHCP, manual or other means (refer to your Administrator's Guide) and that your phone is running with factory defaults.

  • Phone is not running a firmware release, however a subset ("ringer box") and a pulse to tone converter are required. Additionally, a RJ-45 modular jack and an ATA will be required.

If you require the purchase of a subset and a pulse to tone converter, we have tested devices from Western Electric and Stromberg Carlson. For the purposes of this configuration, we're using the Linksys SPA 9000 as our ATA.

Phone Configuration

Step 1: Gather information for each user.

Each user has a set of credentials which will be needed to configure each phone. For each phone that you are configuring, obtain the following:

  • SIP Address (Address of Record)
  • SIP Password
  • Auth Username
  • Username
  • Domain
  • Outbound Proxy

You can find this information in the user detail pages under the Users tab in the Phone Configuration section.

Step 2: Configure the ATA.

When your phone is powered on and connected to your LAN, use a browser to navigate to the IP address of your ATA. If you're using a Linksys ATA, you must also enable the "Admin" view and the "Advanced" view in order to see all the relevant options.

Step 3. Enter your user information from Step 1.

FXS1

  • Display Name> Your Display Name
  • User ID> 701 (must correspond to Line 1 Contact List)
  • Dial Plan>prepend "P20|" to the dial plan to increase the dial timeout

  • Display Name> Your Display Name

Line 1 - Proxy and Registration

  • Proxy>Domain
  • Outbound Proxy>sip.onsip.com
  • Register Expires>600

Click the "Save Settings" button.

Step 4. Confirm that you have disabled all Network Address Translation (NAT) settings.

We handle all NAT related issues. If your phone was set to factory defaults before you began configuration, your NAT section will appear as below:

Step 5. Disable unnecessary codecs.

Under FXS1, turn off all codecs aside from G.711u.

Step 6. Confirm that your phone is registered.

In the Admin Portal, click on the "Users" tab. You will see a green "online" notation next to each user with a registered phone.

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing trouble, double-check your settings as described above and be sure to verify that your password was entered correctly without any leading or trailing spaces. If you are still having problems with your phone configuration, please see our troubleshooting section for further help.
